YES Abroad In-person Selection Event (IPSE)
Last Friday I received an invitation to attend the in-person selection event (IPSE) in Washington D.C. for the Kennedy-Lugar YES Abroad program late this March. It is a great honor to be accepted as one of the 120 semi-finalist for the program and I am very exited to travel to D.C. and meet other young adults like me who want to become better world citizens and study abroad. To give you a little background information, The Kennedy-Lugar YES Abroad program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is offering American high school students and recent graduates in the U.S. full scholarships for up to one academic year to live and study abroad in countries with significant Muslim populations. Scholarships cover expenses for program fees, pre-departure and arrival orientations in Washington DC, secondary health insurance, and ensure careful placement with host families that, like me, are eager to share themselves with the world.
YES Abroad countries include
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Egypt
Ghana
India
Indonesia
Mali
Malaysia
Morocco
Oman
South Africa
Thailand
Tunisia
Turkey
In late April, I will receive notice of my status if I have become one of the 65 finalist and have the great opportunity to become a youth ambassador for the United States for the 2014-2015 school year. Hopefully everything goes well at IPSE. Wish me luck!
Interested in applying next year? Go to http://www.yes-abroad.org/ and check it out!
Best,
Kyle
